I was at a class/meeting last Saturday that turned out to be very important! I wanted to learn how our clinic could become a patient centered medical...

SUMMER TIME AND UPCOMING DPC!
July 20, 2016
The summer is moving on! Our clinic tends to be a little less busy during the summer so if you have kids that need physicals or you need a little extra time with us now is a good time to come in. The least busy day of the week is almost always Wednesday. Soon, if all goes well, Judith will be finishing up at the nursing home and will be back in the clinic on most Wednesday's. She will still do home visits on some days but she and I will likely share those visits and we will do them throughout the month.
Our new system is now up and running much better! It seems to be working as we hoped! Our notes are taking less time so we hope it improves care and quality of life for those of us using an electronic health record.
Medicaid is still struggling significantly and monies will be cut starting in August which may have a great impact on our state. By January we may see significant decreases in benefits to all patients with Medicaid. Please contact your representative if you know this will affect you or someone you know!
Our clinic is still looking hard at offering some DPC services by January. DPC is direct primary care. The model allows anyone who needs a primary care physician to pay a monthly fee of around $50, then a co-pay per visit of around $20, which includes all in house labs and a greatly reduced rate on out of office labs (as low as $3 - $15 on many labs), low rates on studies such as X-rays, MRIs, ultra sounds and CT scans. We still have to find out how to get generic medications much cheaper. Some other states are able to offer five generic medications for $5 total! Most DPC physicians can usually see a patient within 5-10 minutes of walking in. That will be our greatest challenge as we will be doing a hybrid clinic which means doing both insurance and DPC. This fall we will likely have a community meeting in which we explain what DPC is and how it would work at our clinic. As insurance sky rockets and becomes less affordable we want to offer a new model for health care. Stay tuned!
